Understanding Addiction: How to Motivate and Support ChangeA lecture about drug and alcohol addiction and substance abuse including how to motivate people and support them to change their behaviours. People’s stories of addiction and the effect this behaviour has had upon their lives are included. The concept of secondary gains, conscious and unconscious, relating to addictive behaviours are discussed. Assessment of the effects of alcohol on the brain and the importance of reviewing the pre-morbid personality in order to establish accurate diagnosis are included. The main concepts explored in this session are:
Rinaldo Minniti is a Senior Clinical Psychologist who is based within Drug and Alcohol Services in South Australia. Rinaldo also works as a Senior Lecturer at both the University of Adelaide and Flinders University South Australia. In addition to these positions Rinaldo works within his own private practice. Rinaldo Minniti has specialist knowledge and interest in the area of alcohol and substance abuse, in particular in the area of rehabilitation and recovery from addictions.
