The Conflicts, Demands and Stresses in Aged Care Nursing

This lecture discusses the conflicts, demands and stresses which challenge the ethical values of nurses working in aged care. The concept of ‘burn-out’ is described and discussed. Research performed on nurses who experience burn-out and who work in aged care is provided. Examples of incidents demonstrating the effects of burn-out are described. Personal accounts of the effects of working in the aged care sector on ethical clinical nursing practice are provided and discussed. The importance of maintaining ethical nursing practice is emphasised.
