The Relationships Nurses Have with the People They Care For
This is an interactive lecture which provides stories of student nurses experiences and discusses what it means to be a student nurse and nurse. The relationships nurses have with the people they care for is discussed. The personal coping strategies adopted by nurses in order to cope with every day work experiences are discussed. How we educate and nurture ‘new’ nurses is discussed and the importance of providing support for ‘young’ people in the nursing profession is emphasised.

Patricia Awty is a Nurse Consultant and Educator with extensive hospital and university based experience as a clinician, teacher and lecturer. She is a qualified general and psychiatric nurse who has a Master of Health Science and a special interest in the psychodynamics of therapeutic relationships and care. Pat is well known as an informed and inspiring nurse teacher and regularly conducts teaching sessions throughout Australia which are invariably highly evaluated.
