High Dependency Nursing Care - Acid-base BalanceThis session provides definitions of renal, intra-renal, pre-renal and post-renal conditions. Nursing assessment methods for renal function are discussed. Analysis of compensatory systems in maintaining acid-base balance are applied to the nursing care and management of a client in high dependency settings. Internal and external respiration is discussed and applied to acid-base balance maintenance. Theory is applied to the complex nursing care and management of a patient in high dependency throughout this session. The main concepts explored in this session are:
James McVeigh is an authorised nurse practitioner in high dependency nursing. Jim is the coordinator of the Heart Failure Service at the Prince of Wales hospital, Sydney, Australia. He was a founding member of the Australian Nurse Practitioner Association. Jim is the Chair of the Cardiac Nurses Working Group within the Cardiac Society of Australia and New Zealand.
