Identifying and Managing Suicide Risk Factors

This session discusses the correlation between depression and suicide. As older people have a reported high incidence of depression, they are a vulnerable group with regard to  suicide risk. The myths and misinformation about suicidality are discussed and different perspectives explored.  The effectiveness of assessment and care will hinge on the strength of the professional relationship that develops. The nature of the nurse patient relationship is identified as the best way to identify and manage suicide risk.

The main concepts explored in this session are:

  • Suicide risk factors
