Diabetes Mellitus: Gastro-Intestinal & Neurological ChangesThis session discusses the neurological changes that can occur with diabetes mellitus. The gastro-intestinal neurological changes that can occur in people diagnosed with diabetes mellitus such as gastro-paresis are described. Over and under neurological stimulation of the bowel and the resulting symptomotology are described. The importance of psychological assessment prior to the surgical procedure of ‘Lap banding’ and gastric bypass are also discussed. Smoking and diabetes mellitus are considered at length, as are the concepts of motivation challenges and compliance with treatment. The main concepts explored in this session are:
