Celebrating Nursing: Understanding The Importance of HistoryThis interesting lecture discusses the importance of the history of nursing as a guide to future of the nursing profession. The concept of women’s history being nursing’s history is explored. The public’s perception of nursing as compared to the reality of a nurse’s work and role in health care is debated. The invisibility of nursing along with the controversial concept of feminism in nursing is discussed. This historical lecture also debates ‘the science of nursing’ over ‘the art of nursing’. The main concepts explored in this session are:
Associate Professor Stephanie Fox-Young is the President of the Royal College of Nursing Australia. Stephanie has made valuable contributions to the nursing profession for over thirty years. She has contributed to nursing education, nursing research and nursing regulation. During her extensive and influential career, Stephanie has been the Director of Research and Policy at Queensland Nursing Council. Stephanie’s current role is Teaching and Learning Coordinator in the School of Nursing and Midwifery at the University of Queensland.
