Addiction and Substance Abuse: What Treatment Works?
This session discusses which treatments are the most effective in helping people with addiction and substance abuse problems. Relapse rates following treatment for addictions and interpretation of these statistics are discussed. The importance of personal belief systems in maintaining and recovering from an addiction problem is emphasised. Challenging the drug use culture and learning new behaviours and ways of being in a society are explored. The complexity of identifying an appropriate treatment for each person is acknowledged in this session.

Rinaldo Minniti is a Senior Clinical Psychologist who is based within Drug and Alcohol Services in South Australia. Rinaldo also works as a Senior Lecturer at both the University of Adelaide and Flinders University, South Australia. In addition to these positions Rinaldo works within his own private practice. Rinaldo Minniti has specialist knowledge and interest in the area of alcohol and substance abuse, in particular in the area of rehabilitation and recovery from addictions.
