Chapter 1: Framing Palliative Care Description: The purpose of this chapter is to disseminate knowledge of palliative-care nursing to improve the care of people at the end of their lives and to provide care and assistance to their families, friends and carers. It is important that knowledge of palliative care is available to nurses who care for dying people regardless of the health-care setting or the diagnosis. Because dying people can be found in almost any setting, palliative care is increasingly a core component of all health-care roles.
