Nutrition in Chronic Kidney DiseaseThe kidneys are paired, highly vascular organs located in the retroperitoneal space and they perform a number of regulatory functions essential to homeostasis. As well as filtering fluid and metabolic waste, the kidneys are responsible for the release of hormones that control blood pressure, red blood cell production and bone mineralisation. Kidney disease compromises all of these functions and dietary management can alleviate some of the symptoms, especially those relating to filtration failure.
