Unexpected Death: The Role and Function of the CoronerThis lecture provides information on family and community services and the roles of the Coroner and forensic pathologist in these areas. By explaining statistics on the occurrence of unexpected deaths, a better understanding of autopsies and suicide in the elderly. Additionally, the term ‘unexpected death’ is defined and clarification is provided as to the legal interpretation of this term. Following this, definitions are also provided for ‘people placed in care’ and ‘next-of -kin’. Finally the importance of correct nursing documentation is emphasised in this session.
