The Day My Mind Went Psycho! What Is Mental Health/Illness?This lecture discusses the complex concepts of mental health and mental illness in young people. It gives an overview of a range of different types of behaviours of concern, observed in adolescents. Healthy and unhealthy coping strategies seen in youth are described and reasons for the use of these mental defence mechanisms are discussed. The main types of psychiatric illnesses seen in young people are considered and information is provided on helpful resources and actions. This is an informative lecture. Liz Hodgkinson is a Social worker who is employed as a senior clinician at the Victorian Dual Diagnosis Initiative, Education & Training Unit, which, is based St Vincent's Hospital, Melbourne. She provides consultation, education, training and mentoring to a range of drug and alcohol and mental health services with a focus on those working with young people.
