Revision of Infection Prevention and Control PrinciplesThis lecture reviews infection prevention and infection control principles. The need to change the ‘culture’ of infection control prevention is identified. The notion of extending nursing practice relating to infection control into our every-day life is emphasised. Hand washing and hand care are discussed. A system of hand-hygiene entitled, the five moments for hand hygiene is provided. Universal precautions, standard precautions and additional precautions are discussed. The need to use personal protection equipment is stated. The main concepts explored in this session are:
Michelle Bibby is a registered nurse with extensive experience in infection control. She is a principle partner in an infection control consulting service and her qualifications include being an accredited nurse immuniser, Victoria and an accredited HIV / HCV counsellor, Victoria.
