Relationship-Based Assessment Skills: Therapeutic RapportIn this lecture the words nurse and psychiatric are defined. The role of the psychiatric nurse is reviewed and the process of psychiatric assessment is discussed. The importance of applying theory to practice and assessing people holistically is emphasised. The concepts of boundaries and therapeutic relationships are analysed. The concept of touch and the importance of food and drink in the process of relating are discussed. The concepts of nursing as an art and a science are analysed. The main concepts explored in this session are:
Patricia Awty is a Nurse Consultant and Educator with extensive hospital and university based experience as a clinician, teacher and lecturer. She is a qualified general and psychiatric nurse who has a Master of Health Science and a special interest in the psychodynamics of therapeutic relationships and care.
