Legally Accountable Evidence-Based Midwifery Practice

This lecture discusses the law which underpins the duty of care obligations of midwives. The legal accountability of the hospital and the midwife is discussed. The need for midwives to focus on decisions and problem solving choices within an evidence-based, legally accountable framework is emphasised. Discussions on selected duty of care considerations which apply to the provision of safe maternity services are provided and based around a number of case studies which are presented in this highly informative lecture.
