How Risky is Socio-Economic Disadvantage for Adolescents?This lecture provides a comprehensive review and exploration of research findings from the longitudinal research project entitled ‘Life Chances Study’. The study began in 1990, the year in which the 138 participants were born, and highlights the impact of socio-economic disadvantage over their life-time. The most recent report ‘Turning 18 – Pathways and Plans’ (2010) presents the lives of the participants - as 18 year olds- when they left school and sought further training or work.
The main concepts explored in this session are:
Janet Taylor is a senior researcher with the Brotherhood of St Lawrence, an Australian Not-for-profit organisation, whose work for people of all ages includes programs to assist disadvantaged young people as well as a large research and policy program. Janet is the principal researcher of the ‘Life Chances Study’.
