Ethical Considerations at the End of LifeThis lecture discusses the relationship between palliative care, duty of care and euthanasia. The impact of chronic disease on elderly people is discussed. The 'guidelines for a palliative approach in residential aged care' are described. The need for accurate ‘impeccable’ aged care assessment is identified as the most urgent ethical issue of our time. The differences between palliative care and terminal care are provided. The importance of evidence-based nursing practice is emphasised in this informative lecture. The main concepts explored in this session are:
Associate Professor Rosalie Hudson is a consultant and Educator who works in palliative care, aged care and pastoral care. Rosalie is a honorary senior fellow at the School of Nursing and Social Work, University of Melbourne. Rosalie is the co-author of several books about the living and dying experiences of elderly people in residential care including the publication “Palliative Care and Aged Care”.
