Crisis Assessment and Factors Associated with Self Harm

This lecture discusses factors associated with deliberate self harm. Crisis assessment is discussed and appropriate and inappropriate coping strategies are described. The link between self harm and substance misuse is discussed. The concept of mindfulness is described and a mindfulness exercise performed. The emergency hospital colour codes ‘Black’ and ‘Grey’ are defined and discussed. Types of cognitive behavioural therapies are described. A summary of crisis assessment and management is provided. This is a highly interactive session.

Rosemary Sturmey is a nurse educator and consultant who has gained extensive experience in clinical mental health in public and private hospitals, community settings and private practice. Her qualification’s include a Bachelor of Nursing, as well as four years training in psychoanalysis.
