Nursing History: Artefacts and The Curator’s ChoiceThis lecture describes various items and tools of relevance to the development and practice of nursing. By describing a range of nursing artefacts in detail, an historical background to compare and contrast the history of nursing with current nursing practice is provided. Historical photographs and nursing items such as fob watches and badges are also explained in order to enhance the stories of various nurses who make up the rich history of our profession. This is an engaging lecture. The main concepts explored in this session are:
Cecilia Brazil is the Honorary Manager / Curator of the Museum of Nursing History, Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital. Cecilia oversees the largest collection of nursing material in Queensland. A former Director of Nursing at the Royal Brisbane Hospital, Cecilia is a well known nursing historian. Cecilia received a Silver National Trust Community Award for Nursing History for Excellence in Heritage Conservation Works or Action at the 2009 National Trust of Queensland, Bendigo Bank Heritage Awards.
