Kidney Function in a Patient with Complex Cardiac DisorderThis session provides a review and an update on the anatomy and physiology of the renal system. Pathophysiological theory is applied to the nursing care of a patient with a complex cardiac disorder. The impact of a heart condition upon the kidneys (renal) is discussed. The structure and function of the kidney is discussed at a cellular level. A problem solving approach is used in analysing a case study with multiple medical cardiac – renal implications. James McVeigh is an authorised nurse practitioner in high dependency nursing. Jim is the coordinator of the Heart Failure Service at the Prince of Wales hospital, Sydney, Australia. He was a founding member of the Australian Nurse Practitioner Association. Jim is the Chair of the Cardiac Nurses Working Group within the Cardiac Society of Australia and New Zealand.
