Diabetes Mellitus: Signs and Symptoms of HyperglycaemiaThis session discusses differing health related problems that can occur in people diagnosed with diabetes mellitus. Hyperglycaemia and the differing manifestations of this event are described. The causes of hyperglycaemic events are discussed. The triggers which cause diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA) are discussed and symptoms of this condition are described. Fat metabolism and the detrimental effects of poor control of diabetes mellitus are described. Nursing strategies to care for people with DKA are discussed. This is a practical interactive session. Michelle Robins is a Credentialed Diabetes Educator with over 16 years experience in many aspects of diabetes care and education. Michelle currently works as a Diabetes Nurse Educator (DNE) in rural Victoria.
