This extract is called Anti-Psychotic Medications and the indication for use. Bruce Collier is a Mental Health Nurse Educator in Brisbane with a substantial background as a qualified and experienced Mental Health Nurse. In this session Bruce talks about Anti-Psychotic Medications and the indication for the therapeutic use of these drugs. Bruce outlines the distressing side effects caused by ‘Typical’ Anti-Psychotics. The movement disorders and the adverse effects to the nervous system. Bruce tells the stories of people who have been in his care and their reactions to the medications they were taking. He then describes the newer atypical anti-psychotics comparing and contrasting their use with other psychotropic medications. Bruce talks about the drugs used to counteract the side effects of anti-psychotic medications and discusses their desired and undesired effects. He concludes this session with a brief overview of complimentary therapies used in the care of people diagnosed with mental illness.
