In this session Bruce gives a broad overview of the medications commonly used in psychiatry, which he refers to as 'Psychotropic Medications’. Bruce talks about the therapeutic use of anti-depressant drugs, including their drug group and generic names. Bruce also gives an overview of the typical and atypical 'anti-psychotic' medications and discusses the issue of non-compliance in taking prescribed medications by patients within mental health care services. Mood stabilisers and their use in reducing symptoms in people diagnosed with Bi-Polar Disorder is reflected upon. The mood stabiliser, and 'salt' Lithium Carbonate is discussed.
