Alcohol and Drug Addiction - Different Models of TreatmentThis session discusses differing models of theory and treatment for drug and alcohol addiction and substance abuse. The psychological model and the concepts of internal and external triggers / cues are explained. The most common self help / spiritual models are discussed along with the stigma within society about addiction. The medical models are described along with their treatment. The social models are included. The importance of developing a therapeutic relationship is emphasised in all treatment programs. The main concepts explored in this session are:
Rinaldo Minniti is a Senior Clinical Psychologist who is based within Drug and Alcohol Services in South Australia. Rinaldo also works as a Senior Lecturer at both the University of Adelaide and Flinders University South Australia. In addition to these positions Rinaldo works within his own private practice. Rinaldo Minniti has specialist knowledge and interest in the area of alcohol and substance abuse, in particular in the area of rehabilitation and recovery from addictions.
