Chapter 1: Indications for Tube Feeding Overview:
This chapter discusses the swallowing process and factors that affect it, the dangers and management of dysphagia and the indications and contraindications for tube feeding.
Jane Panaccio Jane has also worked in the Cognitive Dementia Assessment and Management Service at Melbourne Extended Care and Rehabilitation Service (Victoria, Australia) for many years. She is currently in private practice in Melbourne. She provides consultancy services to several private hospitals and to individuals in the community. Leone Carroll Most of Leonne's clinical work has been at Melbourne Extended Care and Rehabilitation Service (Victoria, Australia) where she worked on the Home Rehabilitation Service and the Complex Care Unit and was involved in developing a manual for activity workers in communication groups in residential-care facilities. She then managed the speech pathology departments at Broadmeadows Health Service (Sunshine Hospital) and Melbourne Extended Care and Rehabilitation Service for two years, before moving to Perth (Western Australia) in 2002. Leone is currently project officer with Speech Pathology Australia, the national professional association.
