Diabetes Mellitus Type 2 Adult – The Modern Silent EpidemicThis lecture discusses the increase in the number of people diagnosed worldwide with diabetes mellitus, and in particular diabetes type II. The dramatic increase in the incidence of people diagnosed with diabetes mellitus and the consequent socio-economic implications - the profound and detrimental impact on people’s health – are discussed. The aetiology of diabetes mellitus type I and type II is described along with a review of the anatomy and physiology of the pancreas and other relevant endocrine systems.
