Description:
This chapter encourages nurses to recognise the importance of listening to stories and engaging in the significant act of ‘storying’ with their dementia patients. It includes a relevant case study which prompts nurses to pay attention to their patients’ stories in the hope that they (their patients) do not feel isolated, frustrated or neglected.

Speaker / Author:

Julie Goyder Julie has worked as an enrolled nurse in several nursing homes, a hostel for the multi-handicapped, and a respite centre for people with disabilities. Her PhD thesis, later published in book form in 2001 under the title 'We’ll be Married in Fremantle' focused on the people she was still nursing while undertaking work on her doctorate. Julie holds degrees in English and Aboriginal and intercultural studies, and a graduate diploma in creative writing. She is currently a lecturer in creative writing at Edith Cowan University (Bunbury, Western Australia).
