Chapter 4: Young people
Young people have a lot of things to be concerned about. However, they lack a wealth of experiences with which to compare events and they have not yet fully developed their coping skills. Sometimes everything seems overwhelming. This chapter discusses effective ways for counselling and interviewing children and adolescents.
Hugh Irons Hugh’s motivation for writing this book springs from his conviction that all caring persons, with or without formal training, can have a significant therapeutic impact on the mental health and well-being of people who find themselves in distressing circumstances. Hugh relaxes with his wife of 35 years, Patricia, and is interested in reading, walking, and travelling. When travelling, Hugh makes a point of visiting mental-health services in any country that he visits - gathering and disseminating ideas of mutual benefit. |
