Overview and Revision of Cardiac Anatomy and PhysiologyThis session provides an in-depth review of the anatomy and physiology of the heart and related blood vessels. A detailed overview and revision of the cardiac cycle is included. The anatomic and physiological theory is applied to the nursing care of a person with a severe cardiac condition. The determinants of cardiac output are discussed in relation to the case study provided. The importance of maintaining systemic perfusion is clearly explained. James McVeigh is an authorised nurse practitioner in the field of high dependency nursing. Jim is the coordinator of the Heart Failure Service at the Prince of Wales hospital, Randwick. He was a founding member of the Australian Nurse Practitioner Association. Jim is the Chair of the Cardiac Nurses Working Group within the Cardiac Society of Australia and New Zealand.
