The Psychodynamic Process of Relating in Personalised Care of the Elderly Depressed PersonThis session explores the concept of therapeutic care. The importance of developing a psychodynamic therapeutic relationship with the focus on the patient’s uniqueness and their needs is emphasised. Pat discusses the concept of boundaries, identifying the first two boundaries we learn when relating to others (touch and food). Facilitating a relationship, with an older person with depression, is identified as the key factor of assessment and care. The main concepts explored in this session are:
Patricia Awty is a nurse consultant and educator with extensive hospital and university based experience as a clinician, teacher and lecturer. She is a qualified general and psychiatric nurse who has a Master of Health Science and a special interest in the psychodynamics of therapeutic relationships and care. Pat is well known as an informed and inspiring nurse teacher and regularly conducts teaching sessions throughout Australia which are invariably highly evaluated.
